ธนาคารกรุงเทพ จับมือเครือข่ายพันธมิตรธนาคารชั้นนำด้านการค้าระหว่างประเทศระดับโลก พัฒนาบริการ Letter of Credit (L/C) โดยใช้เทคโนโลยี Blockchain เพิ่มประสิทธิภาพในทุกขั้นตอนของการทำธุรกรรม

นายเอียน กาย กิลลาด ผู้ช่วยผู้จัดการใหญ่ ธนาคารกรุงเทพ จำกัด (มหาชน) เปิดเผยว่า ธนาคารกรุงเทพ เป็นธนาคารไทยเพียงแห่งเดียว ที่ได้เข้าร่วมโครงการ Voltron กับกลุ่มพันธมิตร R3         เพื่อพัฒนาบริการ Letter of Credit หรือ L/C ซึ่งเป็นบริการทางการเงินที่สำคัญในระบบการค้าระหว่างประเทศ โดยนำเทคโนโลยี Distributed Ledger (DLT) หรือ Blockchain เข้ามาปรับใช้ นับเป็นการปฏิวัติรูปแบบการให้บริการทั้งกระบวนการและเป็นความก้าวหน้าที่สำคัญของธนาคารและธุรกิจการค้าระหว่างประเทศของโลก โดยธนาคารกรุงเทพ พันธมิตร และ R3 ได้ร่วมเปิดตัวโครงการการ Voltron นี้ที่ งาน SIBOS ประเทศออสเตรเลีย เมื่อปลายเดือนตุลาคมที่ผ่านมา

สำหรับบริการ L/C โดยใช้ CORDA ซึ่งเป็น Distributed Ledger Technology ของกลุ่มพันธมิตร R3 ช่วยเพิ่มประสิทธิภาพในทุกขั้นตอน สามารถลดเวลาทั้งกระบวนการ นับตั้งแต่ผู้นำเข้ายื่นคำขอเปิด L/C จนถึงผู้ส่งออกได้รับเงินค่าสินค้า โดยลูกค้าธุรกิจที่ใช้บริการนี้จะได้รับประโยชน์ ในการลดขั้นตอนการทำงานภายในองค์กร รวมถึงลดภาระการจัดการด้านธุรกรรมกับคู่ค้าและธนาคารต่างๆ

โครงการ Voltron นี้เป็นอีกหนึ่งโครงการที่ธนาคารเข้าร่วมกับกลุ่มพันธมิตร R3 พัฒนาบริการการค้าระหว่างประเทศด้วย CORDA เพิ่มเติมจากการเข้าร่วมโครงการ Marco Polo ที่เป็นการพัฒนาบริการ Open Account Trade Finance ที่ได้เริ่มต้นมาก่อนหน้านี้ เป็นการตอกย้ำนโยบายของธนาคารกรุงเทพ ในการนำเทคโนโลยีและนวัตกรรมเข้ามาพัฒนาบริการอย่างต่อเนื่อง

“ธนาคารมีความเชื่อมั่นในความร่วมมือกับกลุ่มพันธมิตร R3 เนื่องจากเป็นการพัฒนาบริการโดยผู้มีความเข้าใจในเรื่องธุรกรรมการค้าระหว่างประเทศเป็นอย่างลึกซึ้งทั้งในเชิงธุรกิจและเทคโนโลยี CORDA Distributed Ledger Technology Platform ของ R3 จึงได้ถูกออกแบบมาให้มีความปลอดภัยของข้อมูลสูง สามารถกำหนดให้การทำธุรกรรมหรือการรับ-ส่งข้อมูลเจาะจงเฉพาะผู้ที่เกี่ยวข้องเท่านั้น แตกต่างจาก Blockchain โดยทั่วไป ธนาคารเชื่อมั่นว่าบริการ Letter of Credit ที่พัฒนาขึ้นจะสามารถตอบโจทย์ความต้องการของลูกค้าได้เป็นอย่างดี” นายเอียน กล่าว

นางพรนิจ ตุลย์วัฒนจิต ผู้ช่วยผู้จัดการใหญ่ สายปฏิบัติการสนับสนุน ธนาคารกรุงเทพ กล่าวว่า  การพัฒนาบริการ L/C โดยใช้ CORDA DLT เป็นก้าวที่สำคัญของธนาคารในการสนับสนุนธุรกรรมด้านการค้าระหว่างประเทศ ลูกค้าสามารถทำธุรกรรม L/C ได้อย่างรวดเร็วแบบ Real-time คู่ค้าหรือองค์กรที่เกี่ยวข้องจะสามารถเห็นข้อมูลได้พร้อมกัน ทำให้ธุรกรรมมีความโปร่งใส ตรวจสอบได้ มีความปลอดภัยสูง ช่วยให้ลูกค้าสามารถบริหารจัดการธุรกรรมได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพยิ่งขึ้น และด้วยความร่วมมือกับธนาคารชั้นนำด้านการค้าระหว่างประเทศระดับโลก จะทำให้ลูกค้าของธนาคารกรุงเทพสามารถทำธุรกรรมกับคู่ค้าได้ทั่วโลก ธุรกรรมจะเกิดขึ้นได้จริงบน CORDA DLT และคาดว่าบริการนี้จะได้รับการตอบรับที่ดียิ่งจากลูกค้าธุรกิจผู้นำเข้า-ส่งออก ตอกย้ำความมุ่งมั่นพัฒนาบริการอย่างต่อเนื่อง เพื่อเป็นเพื่อนคู่คิด ผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านการค้าระหว่างประเทศที่พร้อมสนับสนุนลูกค้าให้ประสบความสำเร็จในทุกเวทีการค้าโลก

Bangkok Bank joins with R3 consortium

to develop new generation L/C service using Blockchain technology

Bangkok Bank collaborates with leading global trade finance banks to develop Letter of Credit (L/C) service using Blockchain technology to increase efficiency at every step of the transaction process.

Bangkok Bank Executive Vice President Ian Guy Gillard said that Bangkok Bank is the only Thai bank to join the Voltron project with the R3 consortium to develop a Letter of Credit or L/C service. This important financial service in the international trade system, using Distributed Ledger (DLT) or “Blockchain” technology, will revolutionize the whole international trade process and be a great step forward for banks and international trade customers. Bangkok Bank together with R3 and its partners co-launched the Voltron project at the SIBOS event in Australia at the end of October.

The L/C service using the R3 CORDA DLT product will increase efficiency and reduce processing times for every step in the transaction starting from the request by an importer to issue an L/C and up until an exporter receives payments. Business customers will be able to reduce working processes in their companies and arrange transactions with trade partners and banks more easily.

In addition to the Voltron project the bank is also working with the R3 consortium to develop its international trade service using CORDA in Marco Polo, which is a development of the Open Account Trade Finance service. This emphasizes the bank’s policy in introducing technology and innovation to continually develop its services.

“We are confident about our partnership with the R3 Consortium, as the developer has in-depth knowledge and understanding of international trade finance in terms of business and technology. R3’s CORDA DLT platform is designed to provide high data security and transactions will only be accessed by specified parties and this is different from other DLT services. Bangkok Bank believes that the developed L/C services will be able to meet the needs of its customers,” Mr. Gillard concluded.

Bangkok Bank Executive Vice President, Shared Operation Manager Pornnit Dunnvatanachit said the development of the L/C services using CORDA technology is an important step for the Bank in supporting international trade transactions. Customers can quickly and easily perform L/C transactions in real time. Business partners or organizations involved in the same trade transaction can see data simultaneously, providing transparency, verifiability and high security, enabling customers to manage their transactions more effectively. The collaboration between Bangkok Bank and global leading trade finance banks providing real-time transactions under CORDA technology will facilitate our customers’ trade with business partners around the globe. It is also expected that this service will be well received by export and import customers. The development of new generation L/C will reinforce our commitment to continue our service development as a trusted partner and international trade expert ready to help our customers succeed in the global trade arena.
