Tsunami gives Furious Pete indigestion
In the end the "Tsunami's" comeback overwhelmed Mississauga's "Furious Pete" in a much-awaited pizza eating contest in Barrie yesterday.
With the start of the 12-minute timer, Takeru "Tsunami" Kobayashi picked up half a 14-inch pizza, folded it in two, rolled it in a ball and took a huge bite back into competitive eating.
After nearly a year off, the five-foot-eight, 130-pound eating phenom made a victorious return to grub gobbling, showing that he can still consume unfathomable amounts of food - really, really fast. Never taking his eye off the pie, he methodically made his way through 10 tomato, basil and mozzarella pizzas in 12 minutes, winning first place at the first ever pie-eating competition held at Barrie's Pie restaurant

"I even feel like I could eat a little more," the Japanese native said though an interpreter.
It was his first time eating pizza in competition, but that didn't slow him down. Within four minutes
michael kors outlet, Kobayashi had inhaled 4-1/2 pizzas.
But it was no breakaway.
Right beside him was Mississauga's own "Furious Pete" Czerwinski. The 24-year-old former anorexic downed four pizzas in as many minutes and ended up in a tomato-spattered second place

An accomplished competitive eater himself, Czerwinski said he'd been stretching his stomach all week - eating an entire watermelon everyday - in an effort to take down one of the sport's legends.
While you might think there's little more to eating than bite, swallow and repeat, the two men displayed dramatically different approaches to chowing down.
Kobayashi sat at the table, grabbed two pieces of the pie (pre-cut into quarters), folded and munched. He regularly stopped for water, tossing his head back violently as though taking a shot of alcohol.
"With pizza, you're not taking in as much volume," Kobayashi said. "So I took in more water so I could try and swallow it down."
His careful, consistent method made it hard to tell he had temporarily turned into a human garburator. In the end, he had a near-spotless t-shirt and only a few smudges of pizza sauce on his face.
But sauce ran down Czerwinski's arms, and was all over his face and clothes when the timer was up. Not so much biting as shoving big, messy balls of pizza down his throat

"I saw him grabbing two pieces at a time," said a dejected Czerwinski after the contest. At the 10-minute mark was 2-1/2 pizzas behind and never caught up. "So I took two too. But I don't know if that was the best idea in the end."
When it was over, both contestants pulled up their shirts to display hugely bloated bellies to cheering fans.
Sunday's win earned Kobayashi $1,500, his own parking spot at the restaurant and a free pizza every day for a year. Though he won't be moving to Barrie to reap the benefits, he hopes to return to the competition next year
