THE 10TH KINGDOM
Hallmark Entertainment and the Robert Halmi's (Sr. Not as bad as LEPRECHAUNS, it's not as good as THE ODYSSEY, either; 10th KINGDOM runs, then stumbles under its own 10 hour weight. Part One very energetically introduces us to pretty Virginia (Kimberly Williams), a slightly cynical waitress living in New York with her father, Tony (John Larroquette), a failed businessman-turned harried apartment super. The two are quickly introduced to the Nine Kingdoms in a nearby dimension where all the Grimm fairy tales we ever heard are actually two hundred year old history. The Evil Queen (Dianne Wiest), who was the prot g to the original evil queen who killed Snow White with a poison apple, escapes from the Snow White Memorial Prison to begin the downfall of the House of White by kidnapping
クロエ the legendary princess's grandson, Wendell (Daniel LaPaine), who is about to be named king of the Fourth Kingdom. She changes him into a dog and a dog into him with the express purpose of putting the fake Wendell

But doggy-Wendell escapes through a magic Traveling Mirror to an undiscovered 10th Kingdomour world, whose doorway opens into Central Parkand his hunters, a silly man-wolf named Wolf (Scott Cohen) and three off-spring (Jeremiah Birkett, Dawnn Lewis and Hugh O'Gorman) of the Troll King (Ed
エルメス 時計 O'Neill), follow the dog into New York. They track down Virginia, who came across the dog and thinks it a stray until she learns it can spell, and Tony is given a wishing spell by Wolf, which he promptly abuses to not much hilarity at all. Part II is much better (actually the best of the series) as Virginia and Tony try to stay alive in the magical kingdoms after going through the open doorway in Central Park. Plotlines and characters cross and converge, and the humor works much better as the characters become familiar and the magic of this land begins to take precedence within the narrative in a far more cohesive and comprehensive way than in Part One's shenanigans. Wolf has become hopelessly enamored of Virginia. They escape from the Troll King's kids with his Majesty's magic invisibility shoes, but the shoes
バーバリー コート become an addiction, and Wolf fights with the more easily influenced Virginia, eventually tossing them in a river. The evil Queen has retaken her place in the ruins of her castle and activated the magic mirrors that help her with her powers. She and the Troll King form an uneasy, then hostile alliance to throw the Fourth Kingdom into chaos as the Kingdom wonders what has happened to the missing Prince Wendell. As they escape down river in a boat,
セリーヌ バッグ Virginia, Tony and Wolf discover the legendary Golden River Goldfish that will give one the power to turn anything they touch into gold. Greedy Tony takes advantage of this power, inadvertently turning doggy-Wendell into gold along with the three Troll kids who are trying to catch him. Once on land, where they are pursued by the Huntsman (Rutger Hauer), they come across a band of gypsies who tell Virginia that she has a great destiny, but once the girl releases the magic birds that the gypsies collect to sell to rich people, an old gypsy woman gives her a good ol' fashioned gypsy curse that causes Virginia's hair to grow to troublesome proportions. In Part III the Huntsman has captured them; they escape, come across a village in which the Peep family (descendants of Little Bo) have an enormous amount of luck and privilege. Tony inadvertently finds out why: 40 years before, the Peeps diverted water from the town's magic well to their own property so that they could use the special waters for their own gains. When one of the Peeps is murdered, Wolf is implicated as the killer (it was a full moon, after all), and Virginia becomes his
ポールスミス lawyer in a faltering attempt to save him from being burned at the stake. Tony dips golden doggy-Wendell to restore him to a living dog; then they go about solving the mystery of the popped Peep. They leave as the secret of the Peeps is revealed to appropriately maddened townsfolk, and wind up in Kissing Town, the most romantic place in the Nine Kingdoms, where the Huntsman catches up to them, and the Troll King's golden offspring, still a golden statue called Frozen Rage, is up for auction, as is the magic mirror that can get Tony and Virginia home. Part IV opens with Virginia, Tony and Wolf in need of money for the mirror. They go to the
ニューバランス 574 Kissing Town's casino; Wolf wins big, but wants to use his winnings to woo Virginia. He sets up an expensive date and buys a singing ring, that leaves him broke. It's doggie-Wendell to the rescue, and with that money they still lose out on the mirror to the Huntsman, who killed an elf to get enough cash to bid for it. The Huntsman goes after the dog as Tony gets the mirror but winds up locked in a tower due to one of the hunter's traps. The Queen, meanwhile, has killed the Troll King with poisoned apples and begins to set up her pawn's coronation. Wolf romances Virginia, but she finds out how he wasted his winnings on her rather than buying the mirror. This leads him open to the Queen's machinations, and he joins her side. Tony accidentally smashes the mirror, giving himself seven years of really bad luck. Part V has everyone gathered at the castle for the coronation, while Virginia, after a talk with the spirit of Snow White (Camryn Manheim), begins to realize her destiny and takes on the evil Queen herself as the fake Wendell takes to the throne, with doggie-Wendell in a muzzle at the end of the Huntsman's leash. Is it Happily Ever After? Watch it to the end, if you can. The 10th KINGDOM has its
miumiu 財布 strengths. When it's goodwhich is often through various chaptersit can be amusing, enchanting, visually striking, with every performance from lead to co-star very good indeed. The Americans work nicely side by side with the British cast. Dianne Wiest, in particular, is elegantly watchful as the evil Queen; Scott Cohen is enjoyable as the silly, lovestruck and tortured Wolf, and Kimberly Williams is very pretty as this generation's great lady of the fairy tale, having to take on the mantle of everyone from Cinderella to Rapunzel (which she literally lives out at one point). And the script by Simon Moore very cleverly interweaves familiar fairy tales into the history of the Nine Kingdoms, giving life to the descendants of Little Bo Peep, Little Red Riding Hood and, in the final chapter, a (thankfully modest) glimpse of the Emperor and his new clothes. We learn, for instance, of the Five Great Women of two centuries past: Snow White, Cinderella, Lady Rapunzel, Gretel the Great, and Queen Riding Hood, who brought peace and love to the Kingdoms, which have now fallen on hard times and hardly, if ever, see a happily ever after anymore. But only Part II is excellent. Part I is weak in its humor and focus; Part III could have been excised all together, except for the cute performance by Lucy Punch as Betty Peep. Part IV could have been cut in half, its latter portion far more interesting than its former, and Part V, nearly a dozen hours later, has its moments, but winds up only satisfying thanks to Wiest's wonderfully-layered performance as an evil queen with a tragic past. As is usually the case with a mini-series, it could have been told in half the time, and in this case, even half of that. There is
ニューバランス 996 a lot to like here: a genuinely stunning and gasp-enducing morphing sequence of Manhattan turning into a fairy tale land sets us up for a magic that just doesn't come. Those performances (Ann-Margret is lovely and very funny in an all-too-small bit as a 200 year old Cinderella) are all that hold together the series' weaker moments, which come more often as it continues. Children should enjoy it, although they might not understand the dramatic undercurrents if they haven't heard the original fairy tales. Adults will enjoy it for that reason (that is, if their hearts haven't turned as black as a troll's dental work), but Part IV really does get a little cheesy, with the CG Singing Ring being the best character of that chapter. The humor in Part III, which is crucial to the trial sequence, is almost as badly pulled off as the entire first chapter, which nary cracks a smile. I offer an open warning to Hallmark and the Halmi's: make us some joy-enducing fairy tales if you must, put pick your materialand script editorscarefully. and Robert Halmi, Jr.; Produced by Brian Eastman; Directed by David Carson and Herbert Wise; Written By Simon Moore; NBC mini-series airing Sunday, February 27, 9-11pm ET/PT, Monday,
