Hogg, Chairman of ATC Technology Program Committee, said the Arctic in one of the last frontiers for energy exploration and production."The Arctic is made up of a vast area of land that has really little exploration today with enormous potential for oil and gas," he said.Hogg also stressed the tough challenges the energy industry faces when exploring and producing in the region. One challenge is the very harsh environment in the Arctic, and the number two challenge is the environmental concerns."If you ever have a spill,louboutin, it's very difficult to clean up oil in an icy environment," Hogg said, adding that that's why there is one session at this conference on oil spill preparedness in the Arctic.The Arctic holds the world's largest remaining untapped gas reserves and some of its largest undeveloped oil reserves. According to the oil industry, the Arctic is the final frontier for petroleum development.
Helene Marsh FTSE, Distinguished Professor of Environmental Science at James Cook University, is a conservation biologist who has been studying dugongs for 40 years. She is the senior author of a scholarly book entitled Ecology and Conservation of Sirenians: Dugongs and Manatees published in 2011 by Cambridge University Press and has authored more than 170 articles in professional journals and books. Marsh currently receives funding from the federal government via the Australian Research Council, the Australian Marine Mammal Centre and the National Environmental Research Program. She provides professional advice to the Torres Strait Regional Authority, the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority; both these organisations have funded her dugong research. Marsh chairs the Threatened Species Scientific Committee,louboutin, which advises the Commonwealth Minster for Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities.
