It is so important for Beijing and China to have this festival because it is of huge importance, not only for Chinese artists but because it is also a big opportunity for the exchange of ideas in the national community. This is like an invitation to the whole world to come to China to experience this festival. REPORTER: Would you please tell me your expectations of this festival?IVICA SIMIC: I heard about this festival when Mr. Zhou invited me to come here but I didn't know what to expect and I wasn't expecting it to be that big. It lasted for more than a month, so the amount of organisation behind it and the importance of the festival were beyond my expectations.REPORTER: You saw your first performance tonight. What do you think of it?IVICA SIMIC: Well I was lucky to see a performance in April when I was visiting Beijing for the first time. It's not a surprise for me that this spectacular style of theatre is developing with such wonderful, skillful performers. The actors here are beautiful, visual and give really spectacular performances.REPORTER: Could you please tell us your opinions of the Chinese children's drama? IVICA SIMIC: I had the chance to meet the Plaza Theatre company in Guangzhou, and I was fascinated by the company's skills. The thing that I am most impressed by are the performance skills of all the actors and artists that are working in this field. What I'd like to see is development in the future and the directions in which theatre can develop. Theatre has a huge power, and because children identify with the characters, they identify with the stories. Because of this, we have to be very very careful about the type of stories we allow children to see and what messages we are sending from the stage to the children. It is very nice to see, like tonight, that parents and children come to watch theatre together. So after the performance, they can discuss,Beats by Monster, they can talk, they might learn something from what they saw in the performance. But as well as this, theatre functions to communicate on an emotional level too - that is what children will remember for the rest of their lives. That is our responsibility to produce theatre that plants seeds in these little heads.
