SAN JOSE, Calif. ?Good game today between Butler and Bucknell out in Lexington, Ky.Don’t know where Keiton Page followed the game ?either on TV at the Oklahoma State hotel, in the Cowboy locker room at HP Pavilion, or on his phone somewhere in between ?but he was pulling hard for Butler, which prevailed 68-56.“If they’re not playing OSU,?Page said Wednesday, “I’m definitely a Butler fan.”Rotnei Clarke, a Butler senior from Verdigris and Oklahoma high school basketball’s all-time scoring king, is the subject of Page’s admiration.Remember the rivalry they had their senior year in 2007-08, when Page was at Pawnee and Clarke was at Verdigris? It was Page who finished a close second to Clarke in the career scoring chase. Clarke scored 3,758 points. Page finished with 3,709. They both passed previous scoring champ Ty Harman (3,639).It wasn’t really a rivalry at all.“Yeah, people thought that,?said Page, now an OSU grad assistant. “But Rotnei’s one of my closest friends I have today. I talk to him 2-3 times a week. Yeah. We’re really close friends.”Clarke and Page were youth basketball teammates ?that would have been a fun team to watch ?and became close friends.“I’ve been watching all his games this year and keeping up with him all I can,?Page said. “We talk before his games, after his games.”Their college careers diverged a bit. Page played four seasons at OSU. Clarke went first to Arkansas, then transferred to Butler. Now, because of the NCAA rule that transfers must sit out a year of competition, Page’s playing career is finished while Clarke is completing his final season. On Thursday, Clarke hit a huge 3-pointer with 1:33 left and free throws down the stretch to clinch Butler’s second-round victory.“It all worked out well for him, and he’s enjoying his time at Butler and having a good run, chanel handbags,?Page said. “Rotnei’s a great player and tremendous shooter and (Butler coach) Brad Stevens always works well with those types of guys. Anybody would love to have Rotnei on their team. He’s gonna give it all he has and he’s having a great senior year.?
