Do you judge on body of work or "what have you done for me lately?" Does a coach get extra credit for doing more with less or is the won-loss column the best judge? Personally,biyer, I gave bonus points for winning BCS championships.Here's an explanation on my ballot:1. Bob StoopsDoes he win like he used to? No. Has his program gotten a little stale? Certainly. But no current coach in the Big 12 wins more consistently than Stoops. That's just a fact.He's won eight Big 12 titles in 14 years, has at times been brutally dominant against Texas and has a national title.That puts Stoops at the top of my list -- although OU fans want to see the Sooners chasing national titles again for him to stay there.2. Mack BrownAdmittedly this is probably too high,keado, but you don't turn North Carolina into a consistent winner and win 10-plus games for nine straight years at Texas without doing something right.He and his staff revolutionized the recruiting game. And,heija, oh yeah, there's that BCS title.Brown -- to a more dramatic degree than Stoops -- has seen his program cycle downward the last three years. You can't win forever,gucci handbags, even if you're an elite coach.All the wins have bought Brown some time, but he probably only has one more year to get Texas back into Big 12 and BCS title contention.3. Bill SnyderAdmittedly,skrc, this is too low (our staff poll put Snyder at No. 1).The guy really knows how to build programs. And his knack for taking underclassmen, JUCO players and other transfers and molding them into cohesive units is something special.The only nit you can pick is when it comes to conference titles -- two in 21 years.4. Gary PattersonI think Patterson's record has the most historic impact of anyone on this list. Had Patterson not stayed on at TCU and improved upon the trend started by Dennis Franchione, the Horned Frogs wouldn't be in the Big 12 today.Would Louisville or maybe Houston be in the league instead? Would the conference have fully imploded,www.biyer.net, with Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and others bolting for the Pac 16? It's hard to say. But it's pretty certain that Patterson's success positioned TCU for a move into the Big 12.I'm not a small conference hater by any means, but Patterson will need a couple of solid seasons in the Big 12 to receive recognition for his record from all corners.5. Mike GundyGundy has done a nice job building the program, but I'm not as high on him as administrators at Tennessee and Arkansas obviously are.This figures to be an important season for OSU. The Cowboys followed their Big 12 title with five losses. Given its number of returning starters, OSU is a trendy top 10 pick in 2013.If that happens, Gundy will streak up the list. If he has another five loss season,air jordan 13, he'll probably fall off of it.Honorable mention goes to Baylor's Art Briles. Although he doesn't have the won-loss total of some on this list, he has turned around two programs -- Houston and Baylor -- that were in dire circumstances when he took over.
