Craig MacTavish and the Edmonton Oilers missed out on the big fish when winger David Clarkson rejected their
jordan 8 phoenix suns offer, reportedly the highest bid for the former New Jersey winger. The Toronto native literally took a hometown discount to sign with the Leafs, albeit not much of one when you consider that he still signed a $36.75 MM pact over seven years, a cap hit of $5.25 MM. Pretty scary dollars and term, and it may well turn out that Oilers dodged a bullet if those reports are true; that said, Clarkson would have filled a major need in Edmonton so one can understand MacT's desire to make such a bold move.
Still, when the dust settled after a hectic 24 hours or so, there were significant changes on the Oilers' roster. No fewer than 13 players have left town, including captain Shawn Horcoff (trade), Eric Belanger (bought out), an RFA in
phoenix suns 8s Theo Peckham who wasn't qualified and another in Teemu Hartikainen who was but headed for Europe, and a whopping nine UFA's who weren't renewed. It remains possible that one or two of that last group may yet re-sign here as of this writing, only Nikolai Khabibulin has signed elsewhere (with Chicago) but for now they can be considered to be on the outside looking in. In their place are
