At the Boao business and economics Forum, Prime Minister Julia Gillard will rub shoulders world leaders and global business giants such as Bill Gates and International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde.
The Prime Minister's focus will be on establishing relationships with the new Chinese leaders, promoting trade and economic ties, further defence links and working with China on regional issues.
"The timing of this visit, so soon after the new leadership has entered into office, is deliberate and reflects the importance of our rapidly evolving relationship with China and our highlevel political oversight of that relationship. And more broadly, it reflects the centrality of Asia in the story of our nation in the 21st century."
The key meeting of the trip will be with President Xi Jinping, who became leader on March the 14th.
He's said he wants to make the focus of his term the further opening up of China to the world.
Ms Gillard says Australia is shamballa bracelet ready to take advantage of that opportunity.
Escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula are also on the agenda, with Ms Gillard saying she'll personally raise the issue.

Ms Gillard says peace in the region is important for all countries.
