YREKA The Medford, Ore. woman who pleaded guilty last month to being an accessory to the November 2012 murder of 34-year-old Michael MacCallum was sentenced Thursday in a crowded Siskiyou County Superior Court room.Superior Court Judge Karen Dixon sentenced Amber Lubbers, 28, to 16 months in the county jail (with credit for 196 days) for allegedly co-conspiring with 26-year-old Medford resident Patricia MacCallum to slay the latter's husband. Lubbers was also ordered to pay restitution to the victim's family. The amount has yet to be determined. It is alleged that MacCallum asked Lubbers, her former stepsister, to help her kill her husband, a Medford taxi driver. Lubbers and MacCallum reportedly coaxed the victim to participate in an Applegate Creek camping trip during which MacCallum allegedly shot him several times. Shortly thereafter, his body was discovered by law enforcement and search and rescue personnel.Lubbers was initially charged with murder along with MacCallum, who is being held in the Siskiyou County Jail on $1 million bail. The Siskiyou County District Attorney's Office offered Lubbers 16 months in jail as part of a plea agreement. In exchange, Lubbers agreed to testify about the alleged murder at the preliminary hearing last month.According to Kirk Andrus, district attorney, the maximum sentence for a murder accessory conviction is three years of incarceration.
