David S. Reid, III, was born in Winston-Salem, NC, November 10, 1919 and died March 29, 2013 in High Point, NC after a long battle with kidney disease. He was a 1937 graduate of Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem and attended the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. As a Tarheel, he competed on the golf team and boxing team. He volunteered to serve in the Marine Corps during World War II and remained for 14 years, rising to the rank of Major as a pilot,hoganrains.com, both in fixed wing aircraft and helicopters. His tours of duty included the Pacific in World War II and in the Korean conflict. After his active duty he worked as a commercial airline pilot, then as a real estate broker before serving as a bailiff in the Court of Common Pleas in Dover, DE. For the majority of his adult life, he was an avid golfer. His love for golf included two holes-in-ine, starting in his late 50 s. He was well known by quotes of his quips and war stories, most which have not included any war.He is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Patricia Wadswroth Reid,saclongchamproses.com, by his brother, Wallace T. Reid, and his wife of 12 years, Emily Smithers Long Reid, and his great grandson, Noah Torgerson. He is survived by his daughter, Diane Puddie Reid Torgerson of Dover, DE; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Kisha Reidand Charles Pfaff of Hilton, SC; and his son and daughter-in-law,longchamp pas cher, David S. and Kathleen Reid of Belleville,Hogan, IL. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren: Sean Torgerson, Scott Torgerson, Berkeley D Alton, David Quint S. Reid, V, Anne Kathleen Reid, and Connor McGarry Reid. He is also survived by two great grandchildren.He received the most loving care and support from the Hospice of Greensboro and the Piedmont Hospice Home.
