David S. Reid, III, was born in Winston-Salem, NC, November 10, 1919 and died March 29, 2013 in High Point, NC after a long battle with kidney disease. He was a 1937 graduate of Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem and attended the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. As a Tarheel, he competed on the golf team and boxing team. He volunteered to serve in the Marine Corps during World War II and remained for 14 years, rising to the rank of Major as a pilot,

After his active duty he worked as a commercial airline pilot, then as a real estate broker before serving as a bailiff in the Court of Common Pleas in Dover, DE. For the majority of his adult life, he was an avid golfer. His love for golf included two holes-in-ine, starting in his late 50 s.
